Hyatt House - April 3, 2018

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, and for this week's #TinaTuesday I decided to sit down with Todd Craig, General Manager of the Pleasant Hill Hyatt House, because of what they are doing to raise funds for Autism Research through the "Light it up Blue" campaign. On top of that, I am going to share with you some interesting facts about the PH Hyatt House conveniently located right near downtown Pleasant Hill.

On April 2, the world turned blue in honor of World Autism Awareness Day.  It's all part of a campaign spearheaded by the autism community that aims to foster understanding and acceptance for those with autism. In addition, landmarks around the world turned blue in support of the cause (See attached pictures). Niagara Falls, the United Nations, the Empire State Building, the White House and state government buildings are just a few of the landmarks that glowed blue on April 2.  On World Autism Awareness Day and throughout April, which is Autism Awareness Month, local organizations hold a variety of events and educational activities to help the public learn more about autism spectrum disorder, which impacts 1 percent of the world population.

Here is what the Hyatt House is doing throughout the month of April to raise awareness and much needed funds, in their 5th year of participating in the "Light it up Blue" campaign:

  • The Hyatt House will be hosting the PH Chamber Business Mixer on April 12th, 2018.  They will have raffle tickets available for their "Blues Traveler" Raffle, where you will have a chance to enter to win any of 10 Blues Traveler Experiences, e.g. the D.C. Experience, the Miami Experience, the Daytona Experience, the New York Experience and more (drawing to be held on 5/17/18).  You can view each prize as well as purchase raffle tickets through this link, Buy your Blues Traveler Raffle Tickets here.  They will also be accepting donations at the mixer to raffle off as well.
  • They will be hosting a car wash fundraiser on 4/27/18 from 10am-1pm (weather permitting).  Suggested donation is $15/Car, $20/Trucks & SUVs.
  • They have "puzzle pieces" for donations throughout the month of April, which will all go on a wall in the lobby.  Get your donation card on the wall and get famous.  No, seriously... you will.  ;-)
  • All money raised goes to the "Light it up Blue" campaign to help ALL affected by autism.
  • These are just a few of the things they are doing throughout the month of April to raise money for Autism Research.
Thank you Hyatt House, for your contributions toward Autism Research and Awareness.  I personally know a lot of people who would be grateful for your efforts towards this cause.

Now, a little bit about the Pleasant Hill Hyatt House.  It is located on the corner of Boyd Rd and Contra Costa Blvd in Pleasant Hill.  Incidentally, the Soldier's Memorial Monument is located there as well.  Fun Fact:  The monument was erected in 1927 to honor the 6,341 citizens, including 77 dead, of Contra Costa who served in WWI.  It's original location was at the intersection of the Victory Highway and the Pacific and Redwood Highways. It moved to Boyd Road in 1954, when it was rededicated to include veterans of WWII and the Korean War.  Squirrel!  Ok, back to the Hyatt House.  The Hyatt House opened in October of 2002 and they have 142 rooms (studio suites, 1 bedroom suites and 2 bedroom suites).  The Hyatt House is actually a franchise of Hyatt Hotels.  Hersha Hospitality Management bought this Hyatt franchise and developed 3 Hyatt House properties total: Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton and Scottsdale.  The Hyatt House is considered a "Modern Essentials" property, one of 8 types of properties in the "World of Hyatt."  In the 4th Quarter of this year, the PH Hyatt House is going to undergo a $1 million renovation which will include changing furniture and wall coverings to resealing the parking lot and painting the exterior (just to name a few of the planned renovations).

The Pleasant Hill Hyatt House has many amenities for all types of travelers.  Here are a few...
  • Complimentary Breakfast with an Omelet Station (YUM! I might book a room just for that)
  • Complimentary WiFi and parking
  • Outdoor BBQ Pavilion
  • Outdoor fire pit & seating
  • Sports Court with Tennis and Basketball courts
  • Fitness room
  • Onsite laundry services
  • 2000 sq ft of meeting space
  • and of course the H-Bar (which has an amazing menu that they serve from 5-10pm)
Thank you Todd, for taking the time to fill me in on all that you are doing to bring awareness and $$ to those affected by Autism, and all the amazing things about the Hyatt House in general.  BTW, Todd has been at the Hyatt House since 2005 and became the GM in 2009.  For more information on the Hyatt House and to book your reservations follow this link Hyatt House.  Don't forget to join us next week at the PH Chamber Mixer, April 12th from 5-7pm.  The Hyatt House will also be serving appetizers from that amazing menu I was referencing earlier.  So feed your inner FOMO, and join us next Thursday evening to help the Hyatt House in their efforts towards raising funds for Autism Research, and enjoy what is always a fun evening in general.
