DLUX Puppets premiered Alice in Wonderland in May of 2017 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. Debuting to sold out audiences and rave reviews, the company has since toured nationally and successfully debuted a second show, Peter Pan, this past January. Founder Derek Lux handcrafts each intricately detailed puppet, ranging in size from 2 feet to an impressive 7 feet in height, giving them life-like features and an accurate array of personalities to portray the classic characters of the beloved Alice in Wonderland. It can taek Lux up to 250 hours to design, create and maintain the beautiful puppets, and it is time well spent when you see the characters take on a life of their own on stage. Paired with their creative use of an animated, digital video backdrop, recognizable tunes adapted to fit the story, and an inspiring social-emotional learning message woven throughout, this a family-friendly performance you won't want to miss this Spring. "W use high quality puppetry, actors, digitally projocted scenery, and famous songs to perform fun, musical adaptations of classic literature. " (Derek Lux, Founder and Artistic Director).
In less than two years, DLUX Puppets has gone from a single screen show in a 300-seat theatre to being booked in 1,000-seat theatres across the country and using multiple screens for the display and more special effects than ever before. The company has also increased their show offerings to be inclusive of children, students, and family members that may get over-stimulated at the average theatre performance by modifying the house lights, using natural stage lighting, avoiding loud, startling sounds and encouraging patrons to talk, stand, or walk around during the show if they need to. By building this judgment-free space and experience, individuals with autism or other special needs can feel comfortable and supported in the theatre. With DLUX Puppets’ success and growth, they have announced an upcoming move to Las Vegas, NV, where they will develop and expand on their current repertoire in an area known for spectacular, cutting-edge live shows.
“We are so excited to make the move and continue to grow as a company, but of course will miss the Bay Area. We are so grateful to have gotten our start here surrounded by family, friends, and so much enthusiasm and support!”
– Lauren Lux, Co-Founder and Education Director
